Everyone has inherent value.

I want to build experiences that allow users to maintain awareness of that value, so that they can be their full selves and build onto that inherent value. I want users to feel at ease, yet motivated to continue using something I’ve designed/built. An experience that allows clarity and direction in its simplicity.

I’ve recently noticed that User Experience has always been at the top of my mind. I’d often recognize as a user the pros and cons of using any particular design. Be it in toys I had as a child, in gaming controllers and console interfaces, control layouts, and even in board games. I always think about the experience when using streaming services and search functions, often being vocally excited at the ease of(or outraged at the audacity of) certain experiences.

At my Job of 9 years working at an answering service, we had a software that I would constantly be looking for or thinking of ways to improve. I still did not realize my passion. Once I got into real estate I started creating my own marketing and would find myself getting distracted on Canva instead of doing lead generation. I started a podcast with a fellow realtor and had a blast designing images for it. I still did not realize my passion. As a delivery driver I tried to make the receipt signing experience as pleasant as possible. I procured a work provided clipboard that was not widely used by the other drivers. I added a pen holder to it. I even added a battery powered book light to it for deliveries in the dark. I still did not understand my passion. Finally working on a real estate team where I started building systems, and developing some marketing material, I started realizing what tasks I preferred. I built a company portal for my team using google sites. I took point on managing the database and building/maintaining part of the website. Using the power of the platform creating visually appealing and easy to use tools for open house sign in. The month before I started a coffee drop shipping company with a friend and developed the concept for our logo, I also got to build the website. In the Summer of 2021 as a board member of a community theater we depended on a local ticketing company that was closing down. I had the opportunity to build another website using Shopify. Later that summer I had the honor of being invited to participate as a player on a Dungeons & Dragons radio show. This show was a branch off of a morning show. They allowed me to create a website for them. To do that I got to play around with Wix ADI.

After a few more months of really understanding what I liked to do I heard about UX Design and realized the many opportunities it has. I decided to start the course to have the certificate and intended to put it to use at my current job, but instead I’m finding that I might want to dive right into specifically a UX Design entry level position. The idea of working with a team to provide a well planned design is the kind of collaborative environment I didn’t realize I was craving. I’m so looking forward to my first design sprint and seeing first hand what be done when focused so intently on a single goal when working with others.

As I was writing this I knew it was too long, but I really wanted to get it all out there.

About Me TL;DR

User Experience has always been something I cared deeply for, even before I knew it was pretty much an industry on it own. The last 15 years of work experience have opened my eyes to the possibilities of doing something I love and finding work that I didn't even know I was craving.
